San Marcos Lions Club Scholarship Guidelines

Eligibility

1. The student seeking an academic scholarship must be in the top 50% of the senior class based on the cumulative grade point average, excluding the spring semester grades.
2. Students must plan to attend an accredited two- or four-year college or university, or technical school in the fall following graduation from high school. Any exceptions to this guideline must be discussed with the Education Committee, San Marcos Lions Club.

Criteria for Selection

The following factors will be considered in the evaluation of each application for an academic & technical scholarship:

1. High School Curriculum and Performance: The applicant must be in the top 50% of the senior class and have pursued a curriculum that indicates a potential for success in the course of study to be pursued in college.
2. Demonstrated Leadership Skills: Extracurricular school activities, community involvement, and/or work experience will be considered.
3. Personal Statement: Each applicant will be asked to write a biographical statement describing background, future plans, career goals, and why he/she should be considered for the scholarship award.
4. Personal Interview:Applicants selected as finalists will be interviewed by the Education Committee of the San Marcos Lions Club.
5. Financial Need: Circumstances related to the financial needs of the student will be considered.

 Judging

The applicants will be judged by the Education Committee of the San Marcos Lions Club. The criteria for the judging of applicants are as follows:

Phase One-Application Review      

1. 25% - ACT or SAT Composite Scores
2. 25% - The applicant’s cumulative GPA (excluding spring semester grades)
3. 25%- Financial Need
4. 10% - Applicant’s Curriculum
5. 10% - Extracurricular Activities
6. 5% - Work Activities

Phase Two     

1. Interview

 Scholarship Payment

Academic

The scholarship money will be paid directly to the college or university designated by the recipient.  (4) payments of $800 each will be made for a total of $3,200.  The payments will be made by check prior to the beginning of the fall and spring semester of the recipient’s 1st (2) years of enrollment.  The scholarship will be granted for each subsequent semester provided the student has completed a minimum of 12 semester hours with a GPA of at least 2.5 the previous semester and is enrolled for a minimum of 12 semester hours for the subsequent semester of the award period. This scholarship is to be used to pay tuition, fees, and books. After these expenses have been covered it can be used for room and board.

Technical

The scholarship money will be paid directly to the technical school designated by the recipient.  (4) payments of $500 each will be made for a total of $2,000.  The payments will be made by check prior to the beginning of the fall and spring semester of the recipient’s 1st (2) years of enrollment.  The scholarship will be granted for each subsequent semester provided the student has completed a minimum of 12 semester hours with a GPA of at least 2.0 the previous semester and is enrolled for a minimum of 12 semester hours for the subsequent semester of the award period. This scholarship is to be used to pay tuition, fees, and books. After these expenses have been covered it can be used for room and board.

To be eligible, students must have attended Bowie ES for at least one school year. This scholarship is applicable for college students as well as someone attending trade school/community college.

The San Marcos Educator Scholarship consists of two separate $500 awards. One is designated for a student who is intending on pursuing a career in education. The second is available for any major. To be qualified, the student must have a parent who is a current member of the Texas Classroom Teachers Association (TCTA).

This scholarship utilizes the general SMHS scholarship application.

San Marcos Baha’is Scholarship

As you choose a future career and journey, how will you help bring about racial unity? How will you help to educate others to show empathy and goodwill? How will you be part of the solution?

 The San Marcos Baha’is will award one $500 scholarship to a student who writes an essay answering the questions above. Type up two pages explaining what you plan to do to heal racism. Include a document with your grades, and any extra curriculars you are involved with. To receive the $500, you will have to prove you have been accepted and are attending a University.

There is an individualized essay requirement for this scholarship along with the general SMHS application.

The Calaboose African American History Museum supports the San Marcos community by providing a home for African American history and culture. Through preservation, events, and education, the museum strives to preserve and honor the legacy of the African American experience in Hays County. They are providing three $500 scholarships to graduating SMHS seniors to assist in their post-secondary educational pursuits.

This scholarship uses the general SMHS scholarship application.

The mission of Centro Cultural Hispano de San Marcos (Centro) is to serve as a community beacon for the preservation, development, promotion, and celebration of the Hispanic arts, culture, heritage, and values. Part of this includes providing several scholarships to graduating seniors from San Marcos High School each year.

The San Marcos Chamber of Commerce is providing a scholarship to at least one deserving San Marcos High School graduating senior intending to pursue post high school education/training in order to pursue a career path with an employer in the San Marcos area.

In order for seniors to apply for this scholarship, please write an essay addressing the prompt listed below. This essay must be attached to a completed general scholarship application packet and returned to the Counseling Administrative Assistant, Vanessa Garcia at San Marcos High School by March 25, 2026.

 Describe your desire to pursue a career path that exists in the San Marcos area and the benefits of working/living long-term in this area. What is the job type you are interested in? What interests you most about this job/career? What additional education/training will be required for your desired career path?  

This scholarship utilizes the SMHS general scholarship application with an extra essay prompt.

The William Hightower Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution is a fraternal hereditary organization dedicated to the preservation of America’s history, patriotism and statesmanship attained during the American Revolution. The issuing of an annual college scholarship to a patriotic, moral, academic, student leader is one means by which this organization fulfills its mission.

The recipient will be a graduating senior of either gender matriculating from a fully accredited public senior high school from either Hays, Comal, or Guadalupe counties. Applicants must be certifiable citizens of one of the above mentioned counties, the state of Texas and the United States of American. It is optional, although preferable, that the applicant be a descendant of an American Revolutionary War Patriot.

The applicant must have a grade point average 3.5 or better on a 4.0 scale or its equivalent on a 3.0 scale. The applicant must have an ACT score above 27 or a SAT General Aptitude and Mathematics score above 1,200. The applicant must have a record of demonstrated leadership. This is best demonstrated by a record of holding leadership positions (offices) in academic, civic, social, charitable, service and religions groups. The applicant must have a demonstrated record of community service. And finally, the applicant must provide two (2) letters of reference from individuals, other than family, who have known the applicant for more than one year.

The purpose of the Johnnie Tirso Rosales Memorial Scholarship to provide scholarships to at least three (3) deserving San Marcos High School graduating seniors interested in or intending to pursue post-high school course of study at either a
college/university or other post-secondary educational institution in the preferred majors: Computer Science, Engineering, Music.

This scholarship uses the general scholarship application.

The Rice Harrington Memorial Art Scholarship is a $3000 allotment available to graduating seniors from San Marcos High School, to be used for further education in the arts at an accredited college or university.

Degree choices include:

The Sara Wynette's Wish Memorial provides college scholarships to high school seniors in remembrance of Sara, a cherished member of the San Marcos community.

Criteria: Must have participated in band or theatre during high school

Dr. Daniel Rojo Medical Scholarship

Background:

Pioneer Mexican doctor Daniel Rojo was born in Huichapan, Mexico in 1904. He graduated with his Medical degree from the Escuela National de Medicina (National School of Medicine) in Mexico City in 1928. In 1929 Dr. Rojo obtained a Visa to fulfill his dream of establishing his Practice in the United States. 

He migrated to San Marcos, Texas and promptly acquired his medical license to practice in the state of Texas. Dr. Rojo served the San Marcos community for 48 years from the 1930s to his death in 1978. He performed surgeries, treated illnesses, and delivered many babies.

This scholarship is established to reward students with the same desire to serve their communities by becoming medicine professionals.

Purpose: 

To provide scholarships to San Marcos High School graduating Seniors interested in or intending to pursue post-high school course of study at either a college/university or other post-secondary educational institution in Medicine.

Eligibility:

• Planning to pursue further education in the Medical field
• Must demonstrate financial need
• Applicant must be a graduating senior in the year of the award. 
• Minimum of 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale (or equivalent) for high school students 
• Plan to attend an accredited 2-year or 4-year college or university in Texas, for the next academic year.
• In the event the scholarship recipient receives financial assistance from other sources that would constitute a full scholarship, the recipient shall notify the Scholarship Coordinator and relinquish rights to the scholarship. The scholarship shall then be awarded to the runner-up, if that applicant continues to meet all criteria. 

Application Process:

Applicant must submit the following items:

1. Completed General Scholarship application form (if handwritten, please print legibly).
2. Letter of application addressed to the Scholarship Committee. The letter should contain a brief explanation of career goals and biographical (background) information).  In your letter please include what your medical career goals are, what you have already achieved, and what you plan to do in the future.
3. Two (2) letters of recommendation (i.e. from high school teachers, administrators, counselors, employers, or individual with significant knowledge of applicant’s experience and involvement.
4. An official high school transcript with cumulative grade point average and a class standing/rank.

This scholarship uses the general SMHS application as well as having specific requirements beyond this.

The San Marcos Knights of Columbus offer a scholarship each to graduating seniors. The only qualification is that the recipients must be Catholic.

This scholarship uses the general SMHS application.

Scholarship Requirements for San Marcos Tennis Booster Club

Revised July 2017

I. Player will have played for the San Marcos Tennis team all 4 years of high school or been a Varsity player for their senior year.

a. Transfers can be discussed individually at the discretion of the tennis booster board. The board’s decision will be final.

II. Player will have actively participated in Tennis their entire senior year.

III. Player will have been academically eligible their entire senior year.

IV. Player will maintain an overall GPA of at least a 3.0, anything under a 3.0 can be reviewed by the board. The board’s decision will be final.

V. Player will have completed at least 20 hours of community service each year that they played.

VI. Player will submit applications to the proper office on time.

a. Player will include the standard application as well as a short essay stating how tennis has benefited them.

VII. A maximum of 6 scholarships in the amount of $500 will be awarded to the deserving players.

a. Scholarships will be distributed to the player when he/she submits proof of college admission to the board.

This scholarship utilizes the general SMHS application as well as requiring an additional essay.

Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. is a non-profit organization founded on the principles of Scholarship, Service, Sisterhood, and Finer Womanhood. In keeping with these ideals, we are honored to offer the Cynthia A. Bell Legacy Scholarship, established in remembrance of a beloved member whose life exemplified the very essence of Zeta.

Cynthia A. Bell was a devoted member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. and a charter member of the Gamma Alpha Chi Zeta Chapter, serving Hays, Caldwell, Comal, and Guadalupe Counties. Cynthia was known for her kindness, compassion, and the deep respect she showed to everyone she encountered. Her smile could light up any room.

Application Requirements:

•  Be a female high school senior attending a Hays County high school
• Must live in Hays County
•  Plan to pursue a degree in Computer Science or related field at a four-year college
•  Have a minimum unweighted GPA of 3.0 or above
•  Submit an official high school transcript
•  Provide a headshot photo of the applicant
•  Must submit two letters of recommendation: a letter may come from a teacher or a community leader familiar with the applicant, (i.e., minister, school leader)
•  Complete activities form detailing community service and extracurricular involvement

The Kiwanis Club Scholarship is for $1,000 made payable to the college of your choosing. Fill out the application form and return it to Mrs. Vanessa Garcia.

The attached pages are for you to include information and recognition that you feel is necessary to present to the scholarship committee. The essay portion of the application can include the college you plan to attend and any future plans you have at this time.

It is expected that after you receive notice of your scholarship selection that you will attend a San Marcos Kiwanis Club luncheon to meet with members of the club and inform them of your
accomplishments and future plans. Kiwanis meets every Thursday at Grin’s Restaurant at 12:00 noon. You may invite your parents to this meeting for the scholarship recognition.

CROCKETT ELEMENTARY PTO SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION

Scholarship Criteria:

• You must be a current Senior at San Marcos High School.
• You must have attended Crockett Elementary for at least one full school year.
• You must submit the application with supporting documents by March 25, 2026.

We will select 2 students to each receive a $500 scholarship.

This scholarship has its own application process. Please turn in your completed application to Mrs. Vanessa Garcia by March 25th the latest, 4:30PM.

The Hays County A&M University Mothers' Club will award scholarships to Hays County-area high school students who plan to start their freshman year at Texas A&M University this upcoming fall. Each scholarship recipient will receive a one-time scholarship for the fall semester of their freshman year. The amount of the scholarship and how many scholarships are determined by the fund-raising efforts of the Hays County A&M University Mothers’ Club and committee review.

To be eligible, applicant must be either a high school senior living in Hays County or attending a High School in Hays County and who plans to attend Texas A&M University as a full-time student (12 + hours). 

In addition, the student must have already applied for admission to Texas A&M University for the upcoming fall semester. The student need not have been accepted to Texas A&M prior to submitting this scholarship application, but the payment of the scholarship award monies is contingent upon their acceptance and enrollment at Texas A&M University as a full-time student for the 2024 fall semester. Texas A&M-Blinn TEAM program students are not eligible for this scholarship.

• Applications and supporting material are due and to be turned in to the school counselor by Friday, March 22, 2024.  
• Please deliver the completed application and all supporting documents to your high school counselor.  The counselor will scan and email the completed applications to the Aggie Moms Scholarship Chair. 
• Scholarship recipients will be notified in May at their respective High School Award Ceremony. 
• Funds will be disbursed to the student through the Texas A&M University Financial Aid Office not the Hays County A&M University Mothers' Club

In order for this application packet to be complete, it must contain the following:

The application will require that the girls complete an application with counselor's signature, official high school transcript, a minimum of two letters of recommendation (not by Mrs. Knight) and a one page typed essay. 

This scholarship has its own application process; the application will be distributed to qualified seniors in January.

To be considered for a Bluebonnet scholarship, the applicant must:

• Be a senior of a high school or an accredited Home Extended Studies program who is graduating in the 2025-26 school year.
• Reside in the home of a parent or legal guardian who is a current Bluebonnet member with an active account and whose primary residence is within the outer boundaries of Bluebonnet’s service area.
• Provide a copy of current high school transcript with high school grade point average (GPA) through the latest semester completed.  
• Submit a completed 2026 Bluebonnet Scholarship of Excellence application, which is available at bluebonnet.coop. The application must be submitted online by 5 p.m. March 6, 2026. 

This scholarship has its own specific application process.

GBRA’s goal is to encourage and assist students to fulfill their educational endeavors. The following guidelines will be used to determine eligibility and to evaluate applications:

1. Graduating High School Seniors residing in GBRA’s 10-county service area (Kendall, Comal, Hays, Caldwell, Guadalupe, Gonzales, DeWitt, Victoria, Calhoun and Refugio) are eligible to apply.
2. Students have an overall “B” average or higher.
3. Applications will be reviewed and awarded by a selection committee chosen by GBRA.
4. In the event the scholarship recipient receives financial assistance from other sources that would constitute a full scholarship, the recipient shall notify the GBRA Scholarship Coordinator and relinquish rights to the scholarship. The scholarship shall then be awarded to the runner-up, if that applicant continues to meet all criteria.

This application contains an essay question that should be 850 to 950 words long. 

Essay Question:

A Conservation Plan works to protect endangered and threatened species by managing water resources and restoring habitats along the river. Consider the role healthy rivers and ecosystems play in supporting wildlife and communities. In your essay, explain why protecting the Guadalupe River is important and describe actions you or others can take to help conserve it for future generations.

This scholarship has its own specific online application process.

Scholarship Eligibility
To be eligible, applicants must be Class of 2026 Seniors from a school that offers Prestige Photography. Each student is allowed to submit only one application and essay for consideration. The scholarship award is contingent upon the timely return of the signed Affidavit of Eligibility and Publicity Release.

The Hispanic Scholarship Fund offers funding to assist students of Hispanic heritage obtain a university degree. Applicants must be Hispanic/Latino, have a minimum 3.0 GPA (for high school students) or 2.5 (for undergrad/graduate students), plan to enroll full-time in an accredited four-year university or graduate school in the U.S., be a U.S. citizen, permanent resident, DACA or eligible non-citizen, and complete the FAFSA if applicable.

All majors and graduate fields are accepted, with an emphasis placed on STEM majors.

Education powers the leaders of tomorrow. That’s why PEC is proud to support Central Texas through its youth programs, educational foundation giving, and scholarships. This year, PEC will award $100,000 in scholarships to regional students who will attend the college, university, technical school, or trade school of their choice.

RESTORE Scholarship

The Gerloff Company, Inc. is pleased to award RESTORE Scholarships to deserving high school seniors
who plan to continue their education at a college, university, or trade school. Depending on the number of qualified applicants, multiple scholarships of $1,000 may be awarded. Each scholarship will be made payable directly to the student and may be used to assist with tuition, room and board, books, and other education-related expenses associated with earning a degree or certification.

Applicants must meet all of the following criteria:

• Submit a fully complete application
• Be a graduating high school senior
• Have a minimum GPA of 3.0 or 80% or higher
• Include a copy of their high school transcript
• Attend a school district that is an Emergency Preparedness Plan Partner of the Gerloff Company, Inc.
• Provide two letters of recommendation from individuals not related to the applicant (e.g., clergy, teacher, superintendent, employer)
• Submit a brief autobiography and statement of career plans (maximum two pages)
• Be a Texas resident
